honoured leaf

This reimagining of our national flag seeks to represent unity & an honouring of the historic and current peoples that exist from coast to coast to coast of these lands that we call Canada.  It’s the recognition towards the deep importance of supporting sovereignty, connection, and collaboration between us all.

describing the elements of this flag

The white (Arctic) circle: represents the Inuit. Some of the most resilient and adaptive people who have shaped vibrant and steadfast culture in our Northernmost Territories.

The medicine wheel: recognizes those who are the traditional stewards of Turtle Island. There’s a wisdom held here that encourages a holistic way of seeing between self and all relations. We are able to exist in a good way when the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of ourselves and surroundings are in balance.

The infinity symbol: represents the connective bridge of past, present, and future. The Métis, as a people and as a culture, have adopted this symbol. It signifies convergence & collective endurance of community, ways of being, and seeing ourselves as interconnected.

The Maple Leaf: recognizing both the land herself, and the history of many ancestors who uprooted from distant places to forge a life on these unknown lands. The Maple can be seen as a symbol of strength, wisdom, and the embracing of change.

In whole, the flag holds an intention of healing, unity, and action; while being a testament of resilience, wisdom, and diversity. May we honour our past; the harm that was done, and the beauty that has existed (and persists in existence), while we move forward together.
